I'm in a book!!!!

Dear Readers,
Happy Holidays!  I apologize for my absence, holidays and two weeks of bad colds have kept me away. But I have some exciting news to share- the Sketchbook Project book finally came!!!!  I am printed in a book-a very small picture, but I'm in there!  Considering this has been one of my life goals for a long time, I'm pretty happy.  Granted, its not a book I illustrated, but it's a start and I'm celebrating it!
 The Cover of the Book!

My picture, right in the middle!

On a sadder note, as an elementary teacher myself, I am thinking and praying for everyone involved in the tragedy this weekend.  Please include them in your prayers tonight.

The End! (Of Owl, anyway)

Dear Friends,
I know all of you have been sitting there thinking "Where is the end of the owl story? Its been WEEKS!"  Or, you know, you might have forgotten all about it.  But that's ok, I forgive you, since I hope you are forgiving of me!  I've been traveling for the last 3 weeks, and before that it was the end of the school year, which as any teacher knows, is pretty much just 'hold on till its over'.  But I'm back now, with fresh resolutions to blog more, and read blogs more.
SO... to finish the owl book!  If you're just reading this now, or can't remember from weeks ago, this is a story I wrote and illustrated called "Why did the Owl make everyone Laugh?"   It was part of The Sketchbook Project and they currently are keeping it at the Brooklyn Art Library.

So the plot of the story is that Owl sets out to find out what makes everyone laugh.  He runs into some underwear, falls out of a tree, and currently, is being held hostage by a cat.  The cat has asked him what is funny...

Hooray!!! The End!  Let me know what you think of it!

If you ever do make it to the Brooklyn Art Library, my book's call # is 176.8-4.  Please visit- it might get lonely!

Enter the Wildcat!!!

Dear Readers,

Yesterday, a very exciting event occurred!  My sister had a healthy baby boy- my new nephew!  So I was a little distracted from blogging.  I can't wait to meet him this weekend!  But in other news, Owl's adventures continue!  When we last saw him, Owl was sitting on the ground after falling out of the tree.  Suddenly....
Oh no!!                                 (And I apologize for the blurriness)

                                                                What will Owl do?

Come back next week to find out!  Keep me posted with any comments/thoughts you may have-I'd love to hear them!!

Owl falls from a tree!

Dear Readers,
Happy Memorial Day weekend!  I have high hopes that in 3 weeks, once school is out, I will finally being blogging more than once a month! :)  It's been a busy month since I last wrote, but I finished the owl book that I have been blogging about!  I mailed it in and everything, and I received an email from The Sketchbook Project saying that it would be cataloged and online in June!  I'm very excited about that.  Here are the next few pages of the book-

When last we left our hero, he had become entangled in underwear.  Today, he falls out of a tree!
What will he write on his list this time??

Check back tomorrow for what happens next to our hero!  Also, Husband and I are taking an adventure to a lake, hopefully I will have some new sketches to post.  Happy Grilling!

What a difference color makes!

Dear Readers,
Spring is here!  And with the beautiful days outside, it has been hard to draw inside lately!  But this past Wednesday, I took my lunch hour outside on a picnic bench, and I was amazed how much art I got done.   Hopefully I can keep this up.  And on Friday, my dear art friend A and I sat and shared our sketchbooks with each other.  Hers is so beautiful, I am humbled by it!  She is doing portraits of people she knows.   She drew me wearing a Renaissance dress. (Is anyone surprised? ) :) She is going to scan it when she is finished, and I'll post it here.  In terms of my own sketchbook, I have been adding watercolor to my sketches. And what a difference it makes!  The pictures really pop.  I had one person comment (love you Mom!) that it was really hard to see the pencil drawings I posted last time.  And she was right.  Hopefully this way you can see these better.
Here are the first two pages again, this time with color.

What do you think?  I will post more as I finish them....

My question for today (and I welcome facebook comments as well) is :
How do I create my own header for the blog?  I want to incorporate my own drawings into my logo and header, but I don't have the blogging expertise to do that.  Any advice??  Thanks!

It's been awhile!

Dear Readers,
I must apologize- I pulled up the blogger site and realized I haven't posted since October!  But I have been busy making art!  Here Goes....

Art Updates:
1.Well, my art was in the Art FX gallery for about three months- I sold one painting!  Unfortunately, they closed in December.  But still, I called it a success!!

 2. I've been in the process of writing a children's story- I haven't written a story since high school!  It's about a hedgehog who goes on a quest to defeat an evil cat. :)  Stay tuned for pictures!

3. My friend and I are doing a sketchbook competition together!  Its called the Sketchbook Project and it involves filling a sketchbook and sending it to a museum in New York, where it will be on display. One of my pages will also be printed in a book!  You can find out all about it here:
The Sketchbook Project

I will try to be better about updating my blog- check back in a week for pictures of my new sketchbook!!! (And maybe a few pictures of a hedgehog! ):)

Thanks for reading :)
